Plans provide for upgrading 20 biogas plants and sewage treatment plants (STPs) by Delhi Jal board (DJB), the government agency for the supply of potable water in Delhi.

As further reported, upgrades should be conducted over 12 to 15 months, using the latest technology. The source does not further comment on the exact technology, but, as stated, using conventional technology would have taken 4 to 5 years.

Following the upgrades, the 20 plants should be capable of accepting sludge from STPs, septage from septic tank, manure from dairies and municipal solid waste.

DJB’s current AD portfolio can handle a total of 400 tpd.
