Amritsar to get a new WtE plant

The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has given its nod for the waste-to-energy plant at the Bhagtanwala dumpsite in Amritsar.

The WtE plant will have the capacity to process consume 1,000 MT garbage daily and produce 10 mW power.

Officials from the Municipal Corporation reported that the government would spend Rs 287 crore on the project, which is slated to begin within the next few months. The detailed project report has been sent to the Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC), which would further set the price of power with the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA).

The plant was proposed by the government in 2016, and bioremediation of waste was underway to clear the ground for the facility, reports The Tribune.
