The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has intensified its crackdown measures on solid waste management violations. From June 1- October 27, the civic authority has collected Rs 75 lakh as fines.
Sarfaraz Khan, joint commissioner of BBMP told the The Times of India that the BBMP has recruited 250 marshals for SWM duties.
Eight patrol vehicles have been deployed in each of the BBMP zones. The offences include failure to segregate waste at its source as well as littering.
In June, the fine for littering was increased from Rs 200 to Rs 1,000 for first time offences and Rs 2,000 for the next violations. The waste collector accepting unsegregated waste will have to pay Rs 2,000 for the first time and Rs 3,000 for the next time.
