The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) has prohibited Solid Waste Management contractors from displaying Palike stickers on their garbage collection vehicles. “We outsourced garbage collection, but whenever there is an accident involving a waste truck or tipper, the BBMP is blamed.” We had nothing to do with the accident. “The vehicle is assumed to belong to Palike based on the BBMP stickers,” said Harish Kumar, Commissioner, BBMP Solid Waste Management.

The Palike stated in a notice that the rule applies to all vehicles hired on a contract basis. It states that if people are killed in an accident, the contractor must compensate the victims. The notice also warned of criminal charges being brought against owners of vehicles with BBMP stickers. Drivers must have a valid driver’s license, a fitness certificate, and vehicle insurance, reports The New Indian Express. The BBMP has requested that Marshals and junior health inspectors review documents. Contractors who do not have the documents must obtain written permission from the area superintendent engineers, according to the BBMP.
