BBMP to add 30 new dry waste collection centres

BBMP has announced it will add 30 new dry waste collection centres (DWCCs) in different wards. While 129 wards have these centres up and running, the civic body plans to introduce this facility in the remaining wards in about three months.

BBMP floated tenders for the construction of DWCCs, each with a capacity to handle anywhere between three and four tonnes of dry waste a day. Around four wards have been identified in seven zones such as East, South, Bommanahalli, RR Nagar, Mahadevapura, and Yelahanka. While the civic body estimates to spend around Rs 1.1 crore for a 4-tonne capacity center, the smaller centers are expected to cost around Rs 75 lakh, reports Bangalore Mirror.

Mr Sarfaraz Khan, joint commissioner at BBMP’s Solid Waste Management division said that the designs of these centers were finalized after consulting the stakeholders. “These centers will be much bigger than the ones that existed before. It will have a large sorting area, storing space. There will also be a toilet facility,” he reportedly said.
