Bengaluru to get two new landfills?

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has identified two more sites for landfills and is awaiting approval from the government to commission them, reports The Times of India.

The proposed landfills are reportedly quarries at Ullahalli of Bengaluru south and Kannuru in Mahadevapura assembly constituency. There are seven landfills in the city and three of them are allegedly closed – though the civic body claims all are functional. The authorities maintain that the proposed landfills are only a stop-gap arrangement to address the mounting waste problems faced by the city.
