The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) is planning to install CCTV cameras at garbage black spots in the city to catch offenders. The state government has approved the BBMP’s plans to install 2415 CCTVs at, as stated, “garbage vulnerable points”, which is estimated to cost nearly Rs 22 crores. The BBMP will float tenders soon.
Officials are in the process of identifying garbage vulnerable points in industrial areas as well as areas generating biomedical waste. Three years ago, the BBMP had made a similar effort. CCTV cameras were installed in the city, most of which are now defunct. The funds will be used to purchase the cameras as well as set up centrol command centres for monitoring SWM using sensors and IoT devices, Bangalore Mirror reports.
