Bengaluru to raise fine for violations in SWM regulations

Bengaluru has introduced steep fines for littering public places, not segregating garbage at source and violation of solid waste management (SWM) regulations. Offenders will have to pay Rs 1000 for their first offence and Rs 2000 for repeat offences.

The penalty comes in the wake of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) move to finalise its SWM Byelaws 2019. The revised byelaws will be places for approval before the BBMP council next week.

The Times of India reports that the BBMP will be sticking to its monthly SWM cess of Rs 30 on residential buildings spread up to 1,000 sq ft and Rs 200 for buildings between 1,000 – 5,000 sq ft. For buildings between buildings between 10,000 – 50,000 sq ft, the cess will be Rs 600.
