Bio-mining begins at Ariyamangalam yard

Biomining has begun at the dump yard in Ariyamangalam in Trichy. However, at present, only 800 MT of waste will be processed by the biomining plant. The quantity will be increased to 1,400 MT when a high-tension electricity connection becomes available.

Trichy Corporation authorities are hopeful that once the electricity connection is facilitated, the biomining process will gain momentum. The Times of India reports that soil recovered from waste mounds are used for landfill while combustible waste is sent to cement factories as refuse-derived fuel. Plastic and glass particles are being sent to recycling plants. The plant hopes to soon provide manure to farmers from the dump yard’s bio-mined waste.
