According to The Hindu, plans provide for building several biogas plants throughout the campus of the Government Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The units should be processing the entire food waste generated on the campus for producing biogas that should then be used to power canteens. A first facility has already been installed near the Priyadarshini Hostel and further units are due to be built over the next three years near students’ hostels, the SAT Hospital, the super specialty block as well as the new OP block. As further reported, the facilities should be built by and receive maintenance from the Integrated Rural Technology Centre.
