The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced plans for the production of biomass briquettes from municipal biowaste as well as a biomass processing unit in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The briquettes should be produced from biowaste such as grass clippings, shrub and wood waste, which are then to be shipped to various pharmaceutical companies, power and cement plants and food processing units, to be used as alternative fuel. The biomass processing unit should be fuelled with flower waste from nearby temples, which produce around 400 to 500 kg of flower waste each day.
