To prevent waste from being thrown into the Mithi River, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will work with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local groups to raise awareness among people who live along the river’s banks, which extends up to 17.6 kilometers.

The BMC will begin training NGOs and local groups this month to educate slum dwellers about not throwing waste in the Mithi River, reports The Indian Express.

Pollution in the Mithi River is a significant contributor to floods in Mumbai and the government has stepped up efforts to clean up the river.
