Recent press reports suggest that revenue losses in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have prompted it to revise its revenue target for the 2020-21 period, which will also impact its expenditures in the solid waste management department.

The BMC had originally set a target of Rs 28,448 crore but reportedly only collected Rs 980 crore until July owing to the pandemic. There could be a shortfall of Rs 14,000 crore and thus the BMC has decided to slash its original revenue estimates by 10%.

Also, this has forced the BMC to cut costs in most departments, including solid waste management, sewage, water supply, and stormwater drain projects which could likely face expenditure cuts, reports The Indian Express.
