Brahmapuram SWTP gets a new contractor

The Kochi Corporation has replaced the contractor, who has been operating the solid waste treatment plant in Brahmapuram on behalf of the local government for nearly a decade, with a new one. The corporation will save lakhs of rupees per year under the new contract because the new contractor will operate the facility at a lower rate.

The existing contractor charges Rs 550 per tonne to operate and maintain the solid waste treatment plant. The tariff of operation and maintenance of the facility had been offered at Rs 497 per tonne by Star Constructions, the new contractor to whom the local council decided to award the task. Later, the local government negotiated with Start Constructions, and the latter agreed to lower the price to Rs. 492, reports The Times of India.
