The Kochi corporation is planning to introduce a moveable windrow compost system for treating solid waste at Brahmapuram. A group of councillors is reportedly planning to visit a similar unit in Hyderabad to study the process further.

The state pollution control board (SPCB) has repeatedly pointed out the inefficiencies of the existing windrow compost plant and the corporation hopes this will help resolve the issue, reports The Times of India.

Meanwhile, preparations for a Waste to Energy (WtE) plant at Brahmapuram are also progressing. The corporation has around 115 acres of land at Brahmapuram. Of this, the government had decided to allot 22 acres for setting up a WtE plant.

Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) is the nodal officer for the WtE project. Now, the corporation is planning to ask the state government to take over the 22 acres where the proposed plant is to come up.

A medical waste treatment plant will also be constructed at the site.
