The Central government has taken up a pilot project in Solid Waste Management (SWM) in 97 villages across Telangana State with the goal of improving sanitation in the villages.
Hansindia.com reports that three villages will be selected from each rural district based on their satisfactory performance in the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) programmes.
Under the programme, distribution of dustbins, safety equipment (hand gloves and boots), construction of compost yard-cum-segregation shed and dumping yard will be taken up in coordination with the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development departments. SWM awareness programmes will also be conducted among the villagers. SBM officials have reportedly said that every household will be provided with two dustbins, one blue and one green with 11- 15 L capacity with Swachh Bharat logo.
The programme is funded by the World Bank and it would be executed through the Swachh Bharat Mission Telangana wing.
