In an effort to prevent the discharge of solid waste into the Ganges river, the government plans to geo-tag drains along its course. This geo-tagging will allow for effective monitoring and control of waste disposal. The information collected through this process will be shared with urban local bodies, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and the rural Swachh Bharat Mission (G), enabling prompt action to address the issue. By implementing this measure, the government aims to safeguard the cleanliness and ecological health of the Ganges river while ensuring the collaboration of relevant authorities in waste management.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has revealed plans to geo-tag drains along the Ganga River’s banks since it disrupts wastewater treatment at sewage plants.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has proposed using AMRUT 2.0 funds to install protective screens , reports news agency PTI.
