Centre’s SUP recycling campaign with IOCL culminates this weekend

A plastic recycling campaign launched by the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences on July 5 culminates on September 17, with high-profile events helmed by the respective chief ministers in various states across the country.

Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh told PTI that the majority of the single-use plastic (SUP) collected during Swacch Sagar, Surakshit Sagar campaign will be recycled. September 17 is also “International Waste Prevention Day,

The government had roped in Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) to recycle the hundreds of tonnes of waste, mainly SUPs removed from coasts as part of a 75-day beach cleanup campaign. It is estimated that 15000 tonnes of waste will be collected. Recyclers will convert the waste to make furniture, pipes and automobile parts.
