The councillors of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation unanimously rejected a proposal to set up an integrated solid waste management plant at Dadumajra, stating that they would not approve the proposal unless the UT Mayor or any other public representative were included in the high-powered committee that has been constituted for setting up the plant.

The committee comprises government officials and experts. The councillors claimed they had not received the Request for Proposal (RFP) or received it late and did not have enough time to study the 412-page report. The municipal commissioner presented a detailed plan on waste management and how the plant would improve things. However, the councillors deferred the agenda, citing the absence of public representatives in the high-powered committee, reports The Indian Express.
