Chennai Corporation cracks down on illegal waste dumping

The Chennai Corporation has fined individuals for dumping waste illegally in the Perungudi lake and surrounding areas. Civic body officials conducted an inspection in the area and a total of 21 persons were found dumping construction waste and garbage in the lake. They were fined a total amount of Rs. 12,000.

The civic body has also removed nearly 700 tonnes of waste from 30 waterways between August 1 to August 15 using amphibian vehicles, robotic excavators and other machines, reports DT Next.

The Chennai civic body has recently been cracking down on violators. Recently, Indigo Airlines was fined Rs. 25,000 for using banned plastic bags of 27 microns to provide face shields, masks and sanitizers to passengers.
