Chennai Corporation launches website for waste trading

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has launched a website that facilitates waste-trading. Chennai residents can now buy and sell reusable and recycled products online. The website www.madraswasteexchange.com, has a variety of products made from dry and wet waste such as school bags, slippers, vermi-compost, manure, coconut powder and lemon dishwash.

The New Indian Express reports that all these products are available in 210 Resource Recovery Points (RRPs) set up across the city. Sellers can drop the products in their local RRPs so that buyers can choose from the products available in the RRP and purchase it online. Buyers can later collect their purchase from the RRP.

The website is part of the Smart City Mission and the civic body hopes it will promote zero-waste policy and reduce waste going to landfill.
