The Greater Chennai Municipal Corporation has said it collected Rs 11.53 lakh from citizens between October 10 to 23 for dumping garbage and Rs 11.12 lakh for throwing construction waste, reports DT Next.
According to the Solid Waste Management 2019 rules followed by the GCMC, Rs 500 will be taken as fine from those caught throwing garbage in public and private places. Individuals who refuse to segregate waste will have to pay Rs 100. From apartments and bulk waste generators, Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively will be collected for not segregating waste.
For dumping of construction waste, Rs 2,000 will be charged for one tonne and Rs 5,000 for more than one tonne as per GCMC rules.
