The CII’s International Conference on Waste to Worth is scheduled to be held on October 30 and the excitement is mounting. This year, the CII will honour excellence in waste management through its much-awaited 3R Awards
The winners of the CII 3R Awards will be announced during the inaugural session scheduled from 10.30 to 11.45 am by Dr Anil Kakodkar, Chairman – Grand Jury, CII 3R Awards and Chairman, Rajiv Gandhi Science & Technology Commission & Former Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission.
The Awards are designed to recognise the efforts of companies who have set benchmarks in three areas: One, managing waste generated by the industry due to their own activities; two, creating mechanisms or products to ensure there’s minimal waste at the user’s end; and three, managing solid waste and other urban waste across the cities and towns of India. The five Award categories are:
1) Excellence in 3R for Industry (Managing own wastes)
2) Excellence in Innovation, Design, and Developing products, developing minimum/ zero waste at user end
3) Excellence in managing municipal solid waste
4) Excellence in managing plastic waste
5) Excellence in managing urban waste
The winners are being chosen by a panel of experts at the Appraise Committee under the chairmanship of Dr Kakodkar. The jury includes Dr Rakesh Kumar (Director – NEERI), Prof V Ramgopal Rao (Director – IIT Delhi), Prof Abhay Karandikar (Director – IIT Kanpur), Prof Sekhar Mukherjee (Director – NID), Dr B Sengupta (Former Secretary- CPCB), Prof. DN Singh (IIT Mumbai), Dr. Shalija Gupta (Senior Advisor – Office of PSA) and Dr Krishna Kanth (TDT Scientist – DST).
The CII International Waste to Worth Conference’s mission is to bring together policymakers, practitioners, technology providers, investors, and domestic and international waste management companies on a single platform who can discuss various ways to make a cleaner India and the adoption of 3R practices. The event is being organised in association with Technology Development Board, GoI and supported by SBM, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affair, GoI. The Czech Republic is the partner country for the conference.
