The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation is planning to hand over collection of certain non-recyclable wastes such as thermacol and rexine to the Clean Kerala Company Ltd.

In the absence of an official collection mechanism by the Corporation, private groups were collecting waste for a fee in some wards, a lot of which was eventually dumped on roadsides or waterbodies.

The Thiruvananthapuram civic body has now decided to take charge of door-to-door waste collection of this waste and unauthorised collection mechanisms are being controlled.

The waste will be utilised for conversion into refuse-derived fuel (RDF) in cement kilns, reports The Times of India.
