The Coimbatore City Corporation has announced its decision to collect user fees for door-to-door waste collection starting October 2022.

The civic body had started collecting user fees in 2017, but put it on hold after it stopped using a software called Urban Tree Information Systems (Utis). The software enabled collection of user fees along with property tax once in six months.

Now that the civic body has started using Utis again, it has been declared that residents need to pay between Rs 10 – 50 twice a year, depending on their property tax. The charges will be collected retrospectively from April 1, 2017. Residents will be asked to pay arrears in nine instalments starting October, reports The Times of India.
