Cyclone Amphan impacts garbage clearance in Kolkata

Waste clearance in Kolkata is severely impacted following Cyclone Amphan last Wednesday. Huge trees felled by the cyclone blocked a lot of roads in the city making it impossible for vehicles to pass by. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) solid waste management department is finding it difficult to drive its compactors to their respective stations in different neighbourhoods, leading to garbage piling up over the past few days.

An official informed The Times of India that workers failed to transport garbage from compactor stations to Dhapa as multiple roads were blocked by uprooted trees. The situation is expected to improve in the next few days.
