In its Budget announcement, the Delhi government has committed to leveling the city’s three garbage mountains within two years and will loan the civic body ₹850 crore to speed up the process, according to state finance minister Kailash Gahlot.

The government had previously vowed to clear the Okhla landfill by December 2022, the Bhalswa landfill by March 2024, and the Ghazipur landfill by December 2024. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will work in conjunction with the government to ensure the deadlines are met. The MCD estimated that it would need around ₹1,800 crore to clear the landfills in its financial estimates sent to the Centre last year. reports The Hindustan Times.
