Draft rules recommend use of alternative fuels in cement industry

As a reaction of landfill sites filled beyond their capacity, the Central Pollution Control Coard (CPCB) has presented new draft rules aiming to use solid and industrial waste as fuel in the cement industry. According to CPCB, the country does not tap its potential regarding the use of waste, as reported by the New Indian Express. As estimated, about 7.4 million tons of waste are annually produced in India, almost 4 million tons of which may be used to generate energy. The draft rules are opened for public comments until 10 February.
