East Delhi’s new action plan to manage waste

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has announced plans to spend almost a quarter of its budget for 2020-21 on garbage segregation, door-to-door collection and scientific disposal of daily as well as legacy waste. Incidentally, 76 per cent of unauthorised colonies in the national capital are situated within the EDMC.

The Times of India reports that the EDMC has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTPC for setting up a 42-acre scientific landfill plant in Ghonda Gujran. The project includes a waste-to-energy plant  with a capacity of 600 tonnes of garbage, a bio-plant with 1200 tonne capacity and a 200-tonne CNG plant.
