Gasification plant underway in Tambaram

Preliminary civil works have begun at a WtE gasification facility in the village of Venkatamangalam, Tamil Nadu. It will process MSW from the municipalities of Tambaram and Pallavaram. Mumbai-based Essel Infraprojects and Tambaram Municipal Solid Waste Private Limited will develop the 20-year BOT project under a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) created for the purpose, Essel Pallavapuram. The plant will process some 300 tons of solid waste per day and generate around 3 MW of electricity, as reported by Waste Management World. Costs for the facility will amount to about INR 200 million (USD 3.7 million). It is expected to start operations by mid-2014.
