Ghaziabad has announced it will remove about 600,000 metric tonnes of legacy waste at two landfill sites by early next year.

The Pratap Vihar landfill site has nearly 450,000 metric tonnes of waste, while Indirapuram has about 150,000 metric tonnes of legacy waste that is expected to be cleared by October this year.

Following the directions of the National Green Tribunal, the authorities had started the bioremediation process at the site in October 2020. However, the pandemic has delayed the process. The municipal commissioner informed Hindustan Times that the corporation will set up several small waste treatment facilities in different areas for daily disposal of waste.
