GHMC faced with large waste volumes in rain deluge

Last week’s heavy downpour and floods in Hyderabad have led to the generation of nearly 20,000-tonne garbage. The civic body has claimed to remove 10.386 tonnes in the last four days. This was done as a part of the monsoon sanitation drive which will go on for some more days, reports The Indian Express.

The civic body informed that the drive was initiated in the worst affected areas in LB Nagar, Charminar, Khairatabad, Serilingampally, Kutapally, and Secunderabad zones. The drive is done simultaneously with the de-watering activities being carried out in many areas.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has so far identified 9163 garbage heaps across these areas and claimed they have already cleared out 80-90 percent colonies. Authorities admit the waste is much more than expected and the trend might continue.
