Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant met with Norway’s Ambassador to India, Hans Jacob Frydenlund to discuss collaboration on waste management technology.

The Navhind Times reports that Goa’s Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo said that a technical team from Norway will visit Goa to carry out a study on climate and weather conditions before the proposed technology transfer. “We are in possession of one lakh square metre of land for setting up  an incineration plant for dry waste. Once a technical feasibility report is prepared by the Norwegian team after carrying out the study, the government will complete required paperwork to go ahead with the project… Thereafter   expression of interest will be floated for setting up the plant, ” Lobo disclosed.

He also said the state will adopt Norwegian technology for setting up the incineration plant. “The plant will be built on BOOT basis: a Norwegian firm will bear the cost for setting up a refuse-derived fuel plant. Electricity will be generated out of dry waste, which will be sold by the company to the state government, which will help recover the money to be invested for setting up the plant,” Lobo explained.
