Goa Minister announces plans for treatment plants at Sonsoddo

Goa’s Solid Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo, during a visit to the Sonsoddo plant, has proposed a plan for eight small modular garbage treatment plants at the site amidst tonnes of untreated garbage. He assured to speed up the process and ensure that the old dump at Sonsoddo is remediated.

The Herald reports that by November, RDF stacked at the old dump will be taken away and reduced by 50% and space will be used for setting up the new technology treatment plants.

The minister called for cutting short the requirement of land and labourers at the decentralized sites as the facility will be centralized. The plants will treat wet waste and dry waste and continue to be baled and sent to cement plants. “The contractor will be responsible for treating the waste and create energy which will be sent to the grid,” he said.
