The Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) has begun the process of constructing a fourth solid waste management plant at Verna Industrial Estate, which will handle waste from Mormugao taluka and sections of Salcete taluka.

The plant will be built on a 1 lakh-square-meter site and will handle 250 tpd of waste. The plant’s environmental impact assessment (EIA) has been requested by the GWMC, reports The Times of India.

One solid waste treatment plant is currently active in Saligao, with the Cacora plant expected to be operational by the end of May. At Bainguinim, GWMC is currently constructing a third facility. The Saligao facility now manages waste from 27 coastal village panchayats.
