Goa Waste Management Corporation to generate revenue through carbon credits

Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) is all set to generate revenue from carbon credits by selling carbon offsets to buyers in the international market. “GWMC will now initiate trading in carbon credits for the waste management initiatives taken by them thereby earning revenue,” informed the Chief Minister Mr Pramod Sawant. In December 2016, the Government of Goa set up the GWMC under the Goa Waste Management Corporation Act, 2016 (Goa Act 19 of 2016) to make special provisions for securing the orderly establishment and development of facilities for the management of various types of wastes in the manner provided under the law.
