Nearly 50 out of over 550 healthcare facilities in Gurugram have been sent show-cause notices for not obtaining required authoritization to handle biomedical waste (BMW) from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB). These include diagnostic laboratories and private clinics in Gurgaon.
The healthcare units which are yet to get a no objection certificate (NOC) for handling biomedical waste management rules have been asked to reply within seven days. The city has 583 health units, reports The Times of India.
As per the biomedical waste management rules, all healthcare units are required to establish a bar-code system for bags or containers containing biomedical waste for disposal, among other compliance measures.
