The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is planning to develop material recovery facilities (MRFs) for segregating waste. Currently, all the waste is taken to a secondary collection centre before being transported to the Bhandwari landfill. The MRFs will eventually replace these secondary collection points, as per the MCG’s new strategy.

MCG officials informed the Hindustan Times that a survey is being conducted to determine the exact quantity and type of waste that is generated across the city. This will help determine the amount of potential waste that can be recycled and the number of facilities needed for it. The initial process for setting up MRFs has also begun with land being identified for the MRFs at three locations. As per the agreement, Ecogreen will set up the facility and maintain its day-to-day operations. The MCG will demarcate the area with a boundary wall.
