GVMC To Finish Work On WtE Plant by next month

Vizag’s Waste to Energy plant is likely to be functional by next month.

Greater Vishakapatnam Municipal Corporation wants to leave a good impression on the Swacch Sarvekshan 2021 crew due in January and has thus decided to finish the construction work on the 15 MW waste to energy plant by December. The civic body is expecting to get a five-star rating under the certifications category by finishing the work on it. The plant is coming up in Kapuluppada dumping yard, reports The Times Of India.

According to GVMC’s MoU with Jindal Group, the civic body will be responsible for providing 950 metric tonnes of waste on a daily basis while the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited will procure power from the plant fo 25 years. The city is looking to get a berth in the top five cities in the 2021 Swacch Sarvekshan through this plant and other SWM initiatives. GVMV has also allotted a section of the Kapuluppada area for scientific landfill.
