Haryana begins work on bioremediation of Patvi dumpsite

After piling up unprocessed waste at Patvi dumping site for 12 years, Haryana has kickstarted operations to settle the waste on site. Following the National Green Tribunal’s instructions, a private company has been assigned the work of bio-remediation before April 2021. District Municipal Commissioner Parth Gupta informed The Times of India that a tender worth Rs 35 crore was assigned to the firm to clear nearly 5.5 tonnes of solid waste.

Through this plant, the garbage from Ambala Cantonment, Ambala City and Naraingarh will be processed mechanically. The height of garbage piles is about 5 metres and as per the guidelines of the NGT.

The MC also revealed that going by SWM procedures, only 10% of soil will be allowed to be extracted. The rest will be used as manure and coal among other things. The door-to-door collection will be done by electronic machines and garbage will be segregated to generate RDF.
