Haryana’s Urban Local Bodies department has formed a five-member committee to investigate the selection of contractors for legacy waste processing at the Bandhwari landfill site.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram was recently ordered by the department to halt all tendering processes for bio-remediation and bio-mining of legacy garbage at the landfill site because the latter had allegedly failed to get authorisation.

The civic body had issued two tenders, each worth Rs 16 crore, to hire two private agencies to complete the project. The ULB, on the other hand, objected. The panel has now been given 15 days to submit its report.

The Times of India reports that on February 1, some committee members visited the Bandhwari landfill site and inspected the entire waste processing and disposal system, including recordkeeping and the functioning of each trommel.
