Hyderabad C&D waste recycling plant begins test run

The upcoming construction and demolition (C&D) waste recycling plant at Jeedimetla in Hyderabad is almost ready for launch. Test runs at the site have begun.

In the last few years, disposal of C&D waste has turned into a big challenge for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). According to estimates, nearly 2000 metric tonnes of C&D waste is generated in the city daily. The Jeedimetla plant, set up in collaboration with the Hyderabad C&D Waste Private Limited (HCDWPL) at a cost of nearly Rs 12 crore, has a capacity to recycle 500 metric tonnes of waste per day.

Telangana Today reports that Hyderabad is the fourth city after Delhi, Nagpur and Ahmedabad in the country to set up C&D waste recycling plant. The Hyderabad civic body has planned to set-up three other C&D plants across the city. However, they are delayed due to administrative reasons.
