Hyderabad proposes CNG plants at garbage transfer stations

Hyderabad

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Municipal Corporation (GHMC) plans to set up 30 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) plants at garbage transfer stations in the city.

The proposal, which will soon be presented to the government, intends using wet waste. The Deccan Chronicle quotes civic body officials as saying that organic waste picked from households through Swachh auto-tippers will be segregated at the transfer stations and used to produce CNG. Civic officials say this will help curb costs associated with carrying the garbage from transfer stations to the Jawaharnagar dump yard. There are 17 such stations in the city, which generates an estimated 2,510 tonnes of wet waste every day.

The proposal will be discussed with the Pollution Control Board prior to taking it up with the State Government.
