Hyderabad’s first biogas plant at Deeptisrinagar to turn into electric power generation unit

Hyderabad

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to convert its first biogas plant at Deeptisrinagar transfer station, Chandanagar circle, into an electric power generating plant. Tenders have been floated to enable the plant to generate electric power of 15 KVA.

Telangana Today reports that the plant, established under Hindustan Aeronautical Limited’s corporate social responsibility initiative barely two months ago, generates about 80 cubic metres of biogas with one metric tonne of wet waste. The biogas was being used to operate a kitchen in a local government school. However, this initiative wasn’t very successful.

The new set-up will cost additional Rs 9 lakh and will be installed in a month. Initially, the power will be used to operate 16 streetlights at the transfer station, which is spread over four acres.
