Indore announces plans for one of Asia’s largest biomethanation plants

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has laid the foundation stone for one of Asia’s largest biomethanation plants at the Devguradia disposal site.

To be built at a cost of ₹150cr under PPP mode, this plant will have the capacity to treat 550 ton wet waste per day to generate 17,500 kg CNG a day.

As part of the first phase of the project, the 200-ton capacity plant will be ready by April 2021. The target for completion of the second phase is December 2021. Two companies, Environmental Infrastructure and Service Limited (IEISL) and a German company Proweps Envirotech GmbH will construct the plant. The companies will give Rs 2.5 crore annually to the Indore corporation as an annual premium for 20 years.

Half of the CNG produced per day at the plant will be given by the CNG Company to the corporation at Rs 5 less than market rate. This gas will be used to run the city buses.
