Indore Municipal Corporation Kickstarts Plastic Premiere League

The Indore Municipal Corporation has launched a new initiative called the Plastic Premier League to reduce plastic pollution during the festive season and make citizens aware of the harm that plastic can cause to the environment.

During the 45-day exercise, 19 vehicles will collect plastic waste from four zones. Whichever zone collects maximum plastic waste, will become the winner of the Plastic Premiere League.

The corporation has said that Diwali cleaning will begin soon, which typically sees increased plastic waste generation. The civic body hopes this initiative will reduce the load on the vehicles and the corporation will be able to segregate the plastic from the waste for recycling.

A song by Shaan was also released on the occasion. Titled “Indore Lagayega Swachhata ka Punch,” it will be played by waste collection vehicles.

Interestingly, the Indore Municipal Corporation has announced this event during the time when the Indian Premier League is on, which adds to the buzz around the initiative.

Indore had won the Swacch Sarvekshan initiative four times in a row and this initiative marks their bid to clinch the title for a record-making fifth time.
