A new plastics recycling centre in Jammu will begin operations next month, according to Mr Hardeep Singh Mankotia – Chairman, Swacch Bharat Mission Standing Committee, Jammu Municipal Corporation.

Speaking exclusively to SolidWasteIndia as part of its “No Time to Waste” initiative in partnership with Theistic Consultants, Mr Mankotia said the new facility would process 5 tpd of plastic waste to make valuable products for public use.

In May, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Centre for Environment Education (CEE) and HDFC Bank to establish Swachh Material Recycling Centre in Jammu.

HDFC Bank and CEE in partnership with JMC and Regional and Urban Development Agency (RUDA) had started ‘Plastic Lao, Thaila/Mask Pao’ collection and drop point for non-biodegradable and recycling plastic wastes where citizens can drop their plastic waste in exchange for masks and cloth bags.
