Kerala exempts yellow bags for BMW collection from banned plastics list

The Kerala government has exempted barcoded plastic bags used for collecting biomedical waste from the plastic ban imposed in the state from Jan 1, 2020.

The Times of India reports that the order issued by the state environment department says that due to the peculiar nature of hospital waste, its collection and disposal in compostable material was not feasible. The IMA is required to directly supply these barcoded colour bags, which are accounted for until they reach the treatment stage at the BMW facility.
