In Kerala, the Haritha Keralam Mission plans to implement a smart waste monitoring system called Haritha Mitram to keep track of the entire waste management process. This will be done through the local self government department. A training programme for local governments is already underway, who will soon sign a tri-party agreement with Suchitwa Mission.
The app-based monitoring system will be launched soon and will be downloadable via Play Store on Android phones. Through the app, members of the public will be able to lodge complaints regarding waste management. If the issue remains unresolved, it will be forwarded to higher authorities, reports The New Indian Express. Garbage trucks will also have a GPS. Keltron has been allocated Rs 1.25 crore by the Suchitwa Mission for the development of the application and the establishment of the call centre. QR codes will be issued for every house and establishment.
