Kerala’s Brahmapuram solid waste management plant never ceases to be in the news. This time, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Kochi corporation to file a status report on the solid waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram by September 27, 2021.
According to The Times of India, the NGT sought a report from the civic body following the State Pollution Control Board’s (PCB) submission before the tribunal stating that the condition of the plant and the facilities are not good.
The Kochi corporation has said that they will come up with a proper report if some time is granted as they have already initiated some steps and they will be able to show the results of the same on the next hearing date. Kochi corporation authorities said that they have taken measures to improve the facilities at Brahmapuram, including legacy waste clearance and a new windrow compost unit, which is slated to begin in September.
